The Governor of Ugra Natalya Komarova and the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation met with chess players

The Governor of Ugra Natalya Komarova and the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Government Alexander Zhukov met with chess players and shared their impressions on the 39th World Chess Olympiad.
The head of the Okrug and the Deputy Prime Minister visited the venue of the Olympiad before the start of the final round, where the chess players from 153 countries have been competing for the champions’ titles for two weeks.

Natalya Komarova showed Alexander Zhukov the playing halls and just before the start of the round they have had a meeting with the Russian national team and wished them success in the decisive round.

Sharing his impressions on the Olympiad, the Deputy Prime-Minister and the Russian Olympic Committee President Alexander Zhukov said: “According to the participants this is the best Olympiad that has ever been held before. The leadership of the Okrug and the Organizing Committee have done their maximum to provide chess players with all comfortable conditions as for the playing halls, accommodation and free time are concerned. We were concerned about the hotels construction and finally everything turned out to be perfect. The women’s Russian team performed brilliantly having won the first gold medals in the history. Our Russian men’s team is still fighting for the prize medals».
Answering the question of Mass Media representatives whether the organizers of the Olympiad succeeded in everything, Natalya Komarova said: «It is very important to receive positive feedback from those for whom everything was done. You have heard the impressions of chess players and guests of the event – they like it in Ugra. We do count on the fact that love for chess will attract more people of all ages to the world of chess. I hope that everyone who was in Khanty-Mansiysk during these days, will remember it for good and the leave with the wish to come back. This is a special charm of the North».

Commenting the future sports plans of Ugra the Governor emphasized: «The successful conducting of this Olympiad is a good motivation to go further. Since we have reached such a level, we have to achieve other goals because we can only raise a bar in sport competitions. We are already actively preparing for the next tournament - Biathlon World Championship. It always remains a big celebration both for fans and sportsmen in the whole world. We shall do everything to hold this Championship at the highest level».
 The journalists noticed that Khanty-Mansiysk is full of posters signifying that Ugra is the territory of sport and asked the Governor whether it will become the chess capital. Natalya Komarova said: «Aas it was admitted by all sportsmen and their fans, Ugra has already become the chess territory today ».
