Anatoly Karpov is assigned FIDE Representative to International Organizations

The assignment was announced at one of the working sessions of the 81st FIDE Congress.

«His great prestige and popularity worldwide will enable Anatoly Evgenievich to decently represent chess in such organizations as International Olympic Committee, UNESCO and UNICEF», – was emphasized by the FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov.

There was a number of other important nominations on Saturday. Two supporters of the 12th World Champion were included into the FIDE Leadership. Ravi Abyankar from India was assigned Marketing Consultant and the President of the German Chess Federation Robert von Weizsaecker will take the post of the Executive Board Counselor.

Other two posts were given to the representatives of Russia. The Chairman of the Russian Chess Federation Board of Directors Ilya Levitov was nominated FIDE Vice-President and the Women’s World Chess Champion Alexandra Kosteniuk was assigned the Chairman of the FIDE Women’s Commission.
