The Olympiad chess players participated in “National Cross-Country Race”

Chess players from Latvia, Estonia, Bulgaria, Malaysia and Vietnam as well as 2 thousand citizens of Khanty-Mansiysk participated in the race.
On behalf of FIDE, that unites national federations from 170 countries, Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, the President of the World Chess Federation, greeted the runners: "When Ancient Greeks organized Olympic games, they used to say: sport is a fusion of strength and intelligence. The participants of the 39th Chess Olympiad will take part in the “National Cross - Country Race”

On 26 September the national Russian jogging day named “National Cross - Country Race” will be celebrated in Khanty-Mansiysk.  The first race for 1 kilometer will start at 10 a.m. from Ice Stadium. The participants and the guests of the 39th World Chess Olympiad together with Ugorian people will take part in this mass start. The outcome of the race will be announced at the awarding ceremony.
